CG, TBP, RAD hold Pagwaragwag 2.0

Over 200 student journalists and school publication advisers from 21 different schools in Aklan gathered for PAGWARAGWAG 2.0, a journalism and broadcasting workshop, at the Aklan State University ATI Conference Hall, February 28-29.


With the theme “Amplifying Voices through Journalistic Writing and Broadcasting Training”, the first day of the event tackled various writing topics namely; News, Feature, Sports, Editorial writing, and Photojournalism


‘Anyone can be a journalist’


“Anyone can be a journalist, but not everyone has the drive to be one,” said Mr. Jonell S. Gregorio, Communicator’s Guild (CG) and The Blooms Publication (TBP) adviser during his seminar for news and feature writing.


Mr. Gregorio shared his expertise in writing news and features, as well as the technicalities to keep in mind when writing.


‘A heart to inspire’


Ms. Sherry Anne Vidal, Anchor of Brigada News FM stressed the importance of women in Media.


“I proved to them nga kung ano ro kaya ninyong mga eaki hay kaya ko man ag mas maeapawan ko pagid,” Ms. Vidal said.


She said that everyone in media should stick to their objectives, to inspire, entertain and educate.


‘Capturing Truth’


Meanwhile, Mr. Chandelmer Ginoy, Head Photojournalist of Radio101 News, discussed different photography techniques, styles, and proper captioning.


“In photojournalism, importante nga tama ro facts nga ginabutang naton sa caption, bukon it pitik-pitik eang ag imbentohan rayun,” said Ginoy.


‘Writers are creative’


“Sports writing is creative writing,” said Mr. Leobert Julian Dela Peña, as he discussed the significance of sports writing and shared knowledge and tips on how to create a good sports article.


Furthermore, Mr. Phillip Yerro Kimpo, Councilor of Kalibo, shared his journey as a journalist, and his expertise in writing Editorial and Column.


“You should stick to your principles, columns are meant to be understood” he stated.


Meanwhile, the second day of the event focused on broadcasting tips and training.


“Broadcasters are truth-tellers,” said Mr, Joefel Magpusao, OIC Station Manager of 107.7 Energy FM Kalibo during his talk about how to be an effective Broadcaster.


Mr. John Ronald G. Guarin, former News writer and Radio Disc Jockey of 94.5 Radyo Bandera Sweet FM Kalibo, and Ms. Mariane S. Tolentino of XFM 96.5 Kalibo shared their expertise in writing scripts and infomercials as well as the technical control in Radio Broadcasting.


Moreover, the participants were given a writeshop after each talk about the topics being discussed and a Radio Broadcasting Competition.


The awarding ceremony commenced in the afternoon session of the second day, where the ASU Laboratory High School was announced as the Top Performing School.


The event was organized by The Communicators' Guild (CG) in collaboration with The Blooms Publication (TBP) and Radio 101 News.
