ASU studes bag awards on Saròk Short Film Fest '23

Kalibo, AKLAN— Aklan State University representatives from the College of Teacher Education (CTE) bagged the 3rd place in the recently concluded Sarók Short Film Festival Tubas Pelikula Grand Awards with their entry entitled “Hinigugma” at the Marzon Convention Center, on October 20, 2023.


The team were composed of third year Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) Major in English students, namely; Jarizz Sayawan, Bash Raibon De Juan, Marvin Esing, John Kurt Magno, Mylen Banzuelo, Jecelle Agustino, and the director—Aldrin De Claro Jr., with Mr. Ersyl T. Biray and Ms. Merlyn Toledo as the film producer and co-producer.


“Winning is a bonus—what matters most is the dedication. Many doubted us, but little did they know we were driven by passion and dedication in our hearts. All of these hurdles serve as motivation for us to improve our films”, said Direk De Claro, when asked about the hardships they encountered before clinching the win.


Furthermore, the Sarók Short Film Festival 2023 is a Flagship Project of Kalibo Council for Culture & Arts (KCCA), funded by the Municipality of Kalibo in the vision of Bagong Kalibo and in-Partnership with Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).


Hinigugma will then premiere at the Cinematahum 2023: Beautiful Narratives of Western Visayas at the University of the Philippines Cinematheque on November 18, 2023.
