Updated: Dec 18, 2022

November marked the seventh consecutive month inflation increased in Western Visayas and is still higher than the national average of 8% announced by the Philippine Statistic Authority.

“This is the region’s highest recorded inflation since January 2009,” said Nelida Amolar,

chief statistical specialist and officer-in-charge of the PSA in the region.

“The continued acceleration of inflation in November 2022 was mainly due to the higher year-on-year growth rate in the index of food and non-alcoholic beverages at 10.1 percent, from 8.9 percent in October 2022,”

Amolar added.

She also emphasized that it was followed by housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels whose index increased to 11.7%, from 9.2%

Iloilo City has the highest inflation rate in the region at 12.4% from 11.3% in October.

The lowest inflation rate in the Western Visayas was recorded in Aklan, at 7.5%, followed by Negros Occidental (11.1%), Antique (9.3%), Bacolod City (8.7%), Guimaras (8.3%), and Capiz (7.7%).
