RAP, ASU holds 51st National Demo Fest

With the theme, “Pathways to Learning Recovery through effective Literacy Education”, the Reading Association of the Philippines in partnership with Aklan State University executed the 51st RAP National Demo Festival at the ASU Review Center, November 11, 2023.

The 3-day event included six (6) plenary sessions attended by professors, instructors, members of RAP, and participants from different state universities and colleges in the country.

In the first plenary session, Dr. Merlene M. Alon, former president of the Reading Association of the Philippines, talked about Learning Recovery for the Developmentally Challenged Learners in a Regular Classroom.

“Listen to what your students are saying. Whether they are articulating it, or they are saying it through their actions, they are saying it through their inability to perform tasks,” Dr. Alon said.

Jorge Cariño, Senior News Correspondent and Journalist of ABS-CBN Corporation, also tackled Media Information and Literacy in the fourth plenary session during the event.

“You don’t say out information that you don’t verify and countercheck. Check. Double check. Countercheck. It is not always the primary source telling the truth,” he said.

On the sixth plenary session, a discussion titled “Kape, Tinapay, Pagbasa, Pag Basa” was conducted where participants can share suggestions and queries about learners’ literacy.

Reading Association of the Philippines (RAP) is the national affiliate of the International Literacy Association (ILA), a US-based organization dedicated to promote literacy awareness, professional development, and lift up learner achievement.
