EP bags nat'l awards in OSSEI journ tilt

To uphold to media literacy and journalism, Eamigas Publication (EP), the official publication of the Aklan State University - Banga Campus, garnered national awards at the 6th OSSEI National Training on Journalism Workshop at Baguio Crown Legacy Hotel in Baguio city, on September 28-30, 2023.

Jed Nykolle Harme, the current Associate Editor of Eamigas Publication and a student from the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environmental Sciences (CAFES), received recognition among the 36 other universities nationwide, earning the prestigious title of the 3rd Best Feature Writer for her article titled, 'NAY, MAY AGRICULTURIST KA NA.'

“I feel happy, syempre. I love my case, I love my story. All for ASU, EP.” said Harme after receiving the awards.

She also said that there’s no such thing as preparation for her. As a feature writer, she just need to fall in love her case study first, and then a good write up will follow. For personality and human interest stories, it’s the heart that talks, and structure will follow.

Moreso, the Eamigas Publication's Facebook and Instagram social media accounts also bagged the 3rd place and were recognized for their exceptional reporting on the latter platform, earning commendation.

Ms. Joymie Lou, Editor-in-Chief and Prof. Rhea M. Ramos were also present during the said event.

“Primarily to learn from the experiences and best practices of the student publications from the different SUCs and HEIs in the country which could be adopted in ASU set-up; and to showcase the skills and abilities of our student writers”, said Prof. Ramos when asked about what inspires them to join the said conference.

The workshop brought together universities from different regions across the Philippines, with a primary objective of equipping and inspiring them to become influential voices in the realms of campus and community journalism.
